Toirano rises in a strategic position, right in the centre of the popular crags of Finale Ligure and Val Pennavaire. This area is a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts and climbers, with dozens of sectors and a total of 7000 routes. Of these routes 600 lie inside the area of Toirano.

If Toirano once only attracted a minority of climbers who knew better compared to the large masses who came from around Europe to climb in the western area of Liguria, today things have radically changed and the area has become a very busy focal point.

Thanks to this growth a new guide book has been written dedicated to the area thanks to the work of Marco Pukli “the bolter” and the spirit of local climbers. As well as the vast amount of existing routes and their quality, Toirano is impressive for the potential it has to offer climbing and outdoors sport. Most probably the near future will see this sector develop many interesting opportunities.

Marco Pukli, has established dozens of new and rebolted routes, especially in Finale, Albenga, and the Argentina Valley. He has also established several mountain routes, always using mountaineering-style ground-up climbing, some of which are now classic climbs in the Maritime Alps: the Via dei Lupetti on Corno Stella, with Silvio Bassignano, later rebolted with Gianluca Bergese and Sabina Mao; the routes Cristina/Lamaje and Niagara on Caïres de Cougourde, with Bruno Taddei and Franco Monti; L’uccello di fuoco on Cima di Nasta, with Sabina Mao, later rebolted with Gianluca Bergese; and the Pukli-Mao route on Mongioie.
