Calcare di Marca
Crags and modern multipitch routes in the Marche region and surroundings
-
On August 24 and October 30, 2016, the southern region of Marche, on the border with Lazio, Umbria and Abruzzo, was hit by a terrible earthquake, followed by a series of minor tragic events. The Sibillini Mountains have been ravaged: many people died, cities and villages were destroyed. The consequences of this event will probably last for decades. Rock walls and crags were damaged too. Entire mountain routes disappeared due to huge landslides; some climbing spots, such as Forca Canapine, needed to be restored and the work is not finished yet. We hope that this guidebook will contribute to the economic and social recovery of our territory. This new edition of Calcare di Marca is the result of a five-year development and maintenance work carried out both in historical and new crags, thanks to the activity of an amazing climbing community (especially in Frasassi and surroundings) and to the effort of historical and new bolters (in the area of Urbino). In addition, more attention has been given to the beautiful areas between Marche and Abruzzo.
Marco Nardi was born in Ascoli in 1958, he’s a law professor and has always been a mountain lover; he has repeated many of the most famous mountaineering routes in the Centre of Italy, Dolomites, Mont Blac, Val di Mello and North of Europe. He planned and led several extra-European expeditions in Caucasus, Africa, Australia, Pamir and the Karakorum range. He established more than 300 single-pitch routes and over 50 mountaineering routes. He’s a CAI climbing instructor, II level Opes instructor and for the past three decades he has been a FASI trainer and route-setter in the youth circuit.
