  • Taking care of your diet promotes greater general well-being and can concretely improve sports performance, allowing you to obtain a more performing and mentally more alert body. In the mountains this translates into more enjoyable and safe activities at all levels.

The nutritional advice given in the manual is the result of studies and daily professional practice but also of direct experiences on trails, rock or resin walls and on the snow.

The manual addresses everything from both an “omnivorous” and vegan perspective and is divided into sections so that the reader can dedicate themselves to those of greatest interest: a glossary collects and explains when necessary the terms that the reader will encounter in the book, “The pantry” lists the recommended foods, while the subsequent sections deal with the development of nutritional plans and specific advice for various mountain activities, such as the different climbing specialties, hiking and high-altitude mountaineering, also applicable to skiing and skyrunning.

The nutrition of active children and elderly people, competitions, hydration, supplementation and body composition are discussed.

It concludes a collection of bizarre myths to be debunked that circulate in the sports and mountain environment.

Gianni Bimbi, born in 1980 in Pontedera (PI), works as a freelance Nutrition Biologist, frequently following both amateur and professional athletes. Alongside his scientific studies, he cultivates an interest in philosophy and the arts of movement. For twenty-five years he has dedicated himself to martial arts, which has led him to deepen his connection with the mountains.
Taking care of your diet promotes greater general well-being and can concretely improve sports performance, allowing you to obtain a more performing and mentally more alert body. In the mountains, this translates into more pleasant and safe activities at all levels. In 2010, climbing in particular became the focal point in which he brought together the new stimuli of climbing and the knowledge gained in previous years, in search of a more introspective and conscious vertical gesture. Since 2015, he has been an OPES-CONI climbing instructor and AICS-CONI Personal Trainer, holds indoor courses on climbing techniques and preparatory athletic preparation for vertical movement and presides over nutrition lessons in some CAI courses in Pontedera. Today, he continues these activities and his updating in nutritional sciences, with growing interest in their application in the sports field and in particular in mountain sports.
