LAGO DI COMO Sentieri

WESTERN SHORE: Cernobbio Menaggio, Domaso, Val d’Intelvi, Val Cavargna

The book is published only in Italian

The Lake of Como is, according to the experts, one of the world’s most renowned touristic destinations and not only in recent years.

Thanks to its geographical position, mild weather and the beauty of its natural environment, it is difficult not to be fascinated by these places. An oasis of beauty, where history, art, culture, nature and food culture come together to create a unique kind of harmony. Mountain profiles plunging directly into the lake, the changing of seasons marked by colours and local traditions give a feeling of peace and sweet melancholy. A feeling that should be experienced through the slow rhythm of hiking.

This is exactly what the author wants to communicate through this selection of 60 hiking itineraries in the territory of the so-called “Western Lario”. This shore of the Como Lake includes a mountain area defined by natural and administrative borders: to the East lies the Lake, while to the West there is Switzerland; from South to North: the city of Como up to the border of the province, in the municipality of Sorico. This territory stretches from the Prealps of Como and Lugano to the end of the Eastern part of the Lepontine Alps.

The hikes are included between an altitude of 200m a.s.l. (the Lake’s altitude) and 2400m a.s.l (Sasso Canale’s altitude). They are presented in numerical sequence, from South to North, for a quick and easy reading. The author tried all the itineraries with the objective of providing an effective description of the technical and landscape characteristics. At the same time, GPS tracks have been recorded in order to give even more accessible and usable information.

Antonio Barelli has hiked and explored “his own” mountains and many others in the Alps, South America, Asia and Oceania. He is an alpine rescuer, technician and trainer of the helicopter rescue
