iClimbing – FAQ

Utilization

How does iClimbing work?

After you have downloaded and installed iClimbing, the app will download the geo-localization information on its first use. Anytime you open the app, the geo-localization information will be updated. You will find on the home screen four icons allowing to make a quick and easy general selection: Crags, Multipitches, Bouldering, Indoor. You can apply filters within each of these categories, according to your wishes and needs, narrowing the search result. When you select on the map your preferred area, you can access the general information with a single tap: a table specifying the number and the difficulty grade of the single pitches / multipitches / boulders of the area. (Please do notice that this information is not available for indoor gyms).

If you wish to get the full content – that is, the one which is published in our guidebooks – you can either purchase the information related to the single spot / area or activate the full information using a code that is printed in our guidebooks. The latter applies if you have purchased a copy of our guidebooks.

Then you can explore and discover the full details of the area, getting information about the beauty of the spot, its exposition, the approach information, the topos and the like. You will also get the parking coordinates, and with a single tap your GPS/Map app will get you there.

How can I change the language of the app and of its contents?

You can change the app language and its contents choosing between Italian, English and German.

To change the language on a iOS device:

Go to Settings > iClimbing > Language

To change the langauge on an Android device:

Go to Settings > Language and Input > Set the language

Please notice: not all the contents are available for all the three languages.

ATTENTION: after having changed the language of the app you will be able to access the contents from your “Profile” section; however, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to do that as well from the map, since it is optimized according to the availability of the language of the guidebook(s) selected.

How does the filter “Crags” work?

You can set several different filters. Here they are: Elevation (you can select a range), Approach (measured in minutes); Beauty (a range from 1 to 4); Comfort (from 1 to 4); Parking (from 1 to 4); and then other options: you will get to know if the spot is suitable for beginners or for families; if the wall is sheltered from the rain; and you can also select a range of difficulty grade.

Applying these filters will narrow the search results, and the home screen will show on the map, thanks to the geolocalization, the suitable spots.

Please do notice that if you apply many filters or if you use very narrow filters you might not get any result: in this case, reset some filter to get more proposals.

How does the “Multipitches” filter work?

You can set a filter depending on elevation, approach, exposition, quality of bolting and options for placing protection gear, and the maximum difficulty (i.e., the crux) you are looking for.

Please do notice that if you apply many filters or if you use very narrow filters you might not get any result: in this case, reset some filter to get more proposals.

How does the “Bouldering” filter work?

You can set a filter depending on elevation, exposition, beauty (from 1 to 4), Comfort (from 1 to 4), parking (from 1 to 4), type of rock (as instance: granite, sandstone…); and then other options: you will get to know if the spot is suitable for families, if there are non-scary lines, and the difficulty grades.

Applying these filters will narrow the search results, and the home screen will show on the map, thanks to the geo-localization, the suitable spots.

Please do notice that if you apply many filters or if you use very narrow filters you might not get any result: in this case, reset some filter to get more proposals.

How does the “Gyms” filter work?

You can set a filter that will show you the nearest gyms depending on the specific discipline you wish to practice: Speed, Lead or Bouldering.

Please do notice that if you apply many filters or if you use very narrow filters you might not get any result: in this case, reset some filter to get more proposals.

How can I reach the spot I have just selected?

IOS: Just tap on the “navigation” icon that appears right next on the spots you have found on the map. This will open your GPS/Maps app, giving you the direction to get there.

ANDROID: it suffices entering the crag / multipitch you have selected and tap on the map icon, top right of the screen.

How can I reach the parking?

The parking information is based on the work of our authors. It is part of the premium contents, so you can get it either purchasing the content or if you have downloaded it through our iClimbing codes – if you have purchased one printed copy of our guidebooks. After having unlocked the premium contents (either through purchase or providing a valid code) you will see a “Parking” icon. Tapping it will give you the directions to get there.

Can I create more than one iClimbing user profile?

Yes, but every profile will have its own separate management of the premium contents.

Can I access my profile on multiple devices?

Yes. Please notice that to access your own profile on a new device you will have to log out from your profile on the previous device; if you will not do that you will not be able to access your premium contents on the new device.

iClimbing Code

What is an iClimbing code?

It is a unique alphanumeric code that will allow you to get premium contents without having to pay for the excerpt or the full guidebook.

Where can I find an iClimbing code?

It is printed on our guidebooks! Just check if they show the iClimbing logo on the cover. You can get them as well trough promotional newsletters.

Do not mistake the iClimbing code for the codes for downloading Gps tracks.

How can I use an iClimbing code?

First of all, please download iClimbing; create a profile and login. Tap the icon “Redeem code” and enter the code. Please do pay attention to capitalization.

The iClimbing code does not work!

If after entering your iClimbing code the app does not show the extra and premium contents, do check the section “Your purchases” in your profile. Check if the guidebook or the excerpt is present in the list; select them if they are not already selected and synchronize the data.

iClimbing says that the code is not valid. What shall I do?

Please double-check the code and enter it again. Do pay attention to capitalization; and remember, we use “O” (as in Oscar) and not “zero”.

iClimbing says that the code has been already redeemed. What shall I do?

Please double-check the code and enter it again. If the error message keeps showing, it might be due to a fraudulent use of the code by someone else. Please do write an email to iclimbing@versantesud.it and you will get assistance.
