  • Runners, amateurs, Sunday runners. In Milan and its hinterland, more and more people are running, in the streets, in the parks and along the cycle paths.
To stay in shape, to feel free or just because it feels good to run. But after having walked the length and breadth of Parco Nord, done the uphill repetitions on the San Siro hill and endlessly circled the Sempione like a hamster, many of them look between the buildings, towards the north, at those mountains that emerge on the few clear days from the haze of the city. They feel that there is a world there with a clear cobalt sky, with the humid scent of the forest and immense green meadows, there is no asphalt or noise, but only silence, paths to climb and horizons to get lost in.
Le Montagne di Milano Trail running is dedicated to them, to those who have discovered mountain running but live in the plains, to urban runners who would like to be Marco Olmo or Kilian Jornet, to those who only seek the difference in altitude and dream of doing the Tor des Géants or the UMTB at least once in their lives, to those who never miss a “tapasciata” in Brianza. For these and for those who escape the city as soon as they can to run, literally, in the mountains, these 58 itineraries are designed, all just a stone's throw from Milan: from the Bergamo area to the Varese area, from Brianza to the Larian Triangle, up to Ticino.
Great classics such as Montevecchia, Cornizzolo and Corni di Canzo, Campo dei Fiori, the Alpine lakes and the Orobic peaks, the border ridge with Switzerland and the long crossings on Lake Como, but also race routes and lesser-known or unusual paths, all rigorously covered over the course of the last year. For each one, the fundamental characteristics are indicated such as length, difference in altitude, difficulty level, type of terrain, recommended periods of the year, but also where to park or get water, and above all a detailed description of the route is given (also downloadable in gpx format), its possible variants or shortcuts.
A book for those who have discovered trail running, are looking for new routes or just want to run and get to know our mountains.

Lorenzo Capitani, born in the very flat province of Milan when he jogged with canvas shoes, a sweatshirt and an anti-sweatband, began running in 2010 to lose 30 kg. After tapasciate, 10k, half marathons and marathons, he raises his eyes from the asphalt to the mountains, captivated by the trail spirit. He has explored the entire Alpine arc, from the Maritime Alps to the Orobie, from the Venetian Prealps to the Dolomites, the Pyrenees, Alsace and the Massif Central. He dedicated his first book, Monte Grappa Trail (2022), to Monte Grappa and its war stories. He loves long solitary crossings, the sun that warms the fresh spring dawns and the subtle restlessness that one feels after a night of running in the woods. He has taken part in numerous trails and races of all types and distances: the ones he loved the most are the LUT, the Gran Trail delle Orobie, the Livigno Skymarathon and the Villaggi di Pietra. Searching for new routes and panoramas, he conceived and wrote this book. He doesn't seek limits and doesn't challenge himself. He has a dream: to have time for the Grande Traversata delle Alpi.
