Six years after the last edition and 13 years since its first publication, here is the third version of Calcare di Marca, a work that, like its predecessors, collects all the sport climbing crags in the Marche region.
The extensive bolting and repair work by the unstoppable climbers of the Marche region makes this new work indispensable, as much of the playing field has been transformed.
The new features in Frasassi and the Pesaro valleys are tempting, but some new crags have also sprung up in the hills around Ascoli, and above all, a major maintenance project has brought back into vogue some crags that had been little-used due to the age of their equipment.
Marco Nardi has always been passionate about the mountains; he has repeated the most famous mountaineering routes in Central Italy, the Dolomites, Mont Blanc, Val di Mello, and Northern Europe, later broadening his horizons by planning and leading expeditions beyond Europe to the Caucasus, Africa, Australia, the Pamirs, and the Karakorum, culminating in a successful ascent without supplementary oxygen of the 8,030-meter Rocky Summit on Broad Peak. He has established more than 300 sport climbing routes and over 50 classic and modern mountaineering routes, almost always solo. A CAI National Free Climbing Instructor and Level II Opes Instructor, he has been involved for three decades as a Coach and Route Setter in the youth sector of the F.A.S.I. in Central Italy.
Sandro Angelini has been active since the dawn of free climbing in the Pesaro area, and has been a constant guide for the entire area. He has equipped around 400 new routes and systematically contributes to the maintenance of many of them, all in the purest style of volunteering and self-financing. Within the F.A.S.I., he was a point of reference, first in guiding activity in his region, then in developing crag activity nationally. From a professional perspective, Sandro is the owner of the well-known Smog company, a manufacturer of holds and volumes, and one of the founders of the One Way Up gym in Pesaro.
